In the movie Stranger Than Fiction they mess with the idea of the way we understand characters and how the story presents itself. In the begging of the movie we are presented with the character Harold Crick as the narrator, narrates his day. But Harold Crick begins to hear the narrator just as the audience dose. He is the only bin the movie who can hear the narrator and also hears that the narrator wants to kill him off. This movie is a story about story telling.
In stranger than fiction the audience may find it odd that the main character can here the author's voice as she narrates. Karn Eiffel the author of the story is not aware that her character is "real". This made me assume that Harold Crick is in a fake world, he is a character in Karn Eiffel's story. But their worlds seem too similar, when it rain in Karn's world, it would also rain in Harolds world. Later the audience finds out they are living in the same world, and Karn's character Harold is real. This movie really messes with what is real and what is fake.
This movie is has a lot of postmoderism. It takes a concept that is used often and changed it to something very different. This movie is basically a story in a story. Karn trying to write a story and wants to make her main character die in an interesting way. Her main character Harold trying to avoid the end of the story and fighting for his life hoping it change the story. This movie is very really messes with the way we understand stories and characters because of what we are use to. We are use to the main character not hearing the narrator and ignore and accept that the main character cannot hear them. Also the main character is not suppose to know that they are going to die
Stranger Than Fiction messes with the way we view movies and or story It messes with the idea of story telling and the roles characters plays. The movie itself is very Postmodern In a way that the movie takes a regular theme for any story and changes it in a very different way. Like a story in a story.

Fight Club
The Id, ego, and super ego are represented in Fight Club in a very physiological way. The id is represented within Edward and Tyler, Edward wanting sleep and being materialistic, and Tyler by doing whatever he wants by fighting and terriozing others. The Ego is represented when Edward wants to do the right thing but struggles because of Tyler. The super ego comes into play when he realized what he has done by the end of the story and wants to prevent the bombs from exploding.
In Fight Club the id is represented in different ways. Edward and Tyler want immediate gratification for certain needs and desires. Edward has the desire and need to sleep, and buy furniture from Ikea. In order for him to get sleep Edward attends support meetings even though he is not sick at all. Even though there are different ways to achieve sleep he choose do take the shortest rout to getting extra sleep. Tyler is very violent and is the creator of fight club. He seems to have this desire of fighting with others. This represents the id in the movie.
The ego is shown in Fight club in various ways. When Edward wants to do the right thing or begins to change for the better Tyler gets in his way and stops him. Edward often ends up to the opposite of the ego and ends up relying on the id to get though certain problems. When Tyler pours acid on Edwards hand Tyler forces him to let go of the socially appropriate ways of doing things. Having a Nice house which he burned down. Also the nice job he had kept balance in his life that he no longer has.
In Fight Club the super ego is represented by the end of the movie. When Edward finds out he is Tyler and realized all the bad things he has done he begins to think with the super ego. He wants to stop the bombings from happening which shows he is thinking with the super ego, putting gratification aside and doing the right thing. He shows this by going to the police and telling them who he is and how the bombings are going to happen.

Boyz n' The Hood
Boyz n' the hood is a film that focuses on guys that live in a rough neighborhood and are dependent on their masculinity to get them though life situations. two characters that really interest me is doughboy and his brother Ricky. Ricky has a son and is trying to pursue his carear as a NFL football player and going to college. He is favored by his mother who is proud of him going to college and push's away doughboy. When doughboy was a child his mother never really did anything but drink. He has developed the same habits as mother. He dose not seem like he wants to go to college like his brother, he drinks and is always just hanging out with his friends not doing anything. Unlike ricky, he is very masculine and tough and dose not let anyone pick on his brother or him self. When he is around every one knows not to mess with him. Even though Doughboy was tough on the outside there on times when he dose in fact seem sensitive.
Doughboy portrays a very masculine character who is very tough. He shows this masculinitiy though cursing, drinking, sexualizing women and using his gun when threating someone. Though he is very mascuine he is not a better man. Some times the things he says may seem like he is but he acts like the adverage masculine male charater but a little rougher since the way his commmunity is. I believe that if he were to show his sensitive side it would never be around where he lives or around other men. It probably be more of trays situationwhere it was in front of his girlfriend. by the end the most sensitive thing I had seen out of him was when he told tray his mother loved his brother more and he did not matter in the family.
Ricky also protrays a masculine character but not as much as his brother. He is persuing college, is favored by his mom, and has a wife and a son. He resembles more of a better man by persuing college and is looking forward to a better life than just there's nothing I can do because of where I live and more than likely i wont make it attitude. He really wants to make something of himself like tray and dose not seem the type of person to make bad decisions. Also if he did make a bad chioce (the ending of the movie when he thought it would be best to split up) it was intentional and he did not know better. When things did seem to fall out of place like his child he haandle his business well. Ricky is a much more of a sentimetal character who is more of the person who breaks up the fights the fighter, because of this it made him a weaker link to his brother. since he lacks masculinty others dont give him as much respect and mess with him more than they do with his brother.
the final part of the film where ricky gets shot since he is the weakest link and was actually going to make good out of himself. Doughboy continues to put on the tough guise and does not cry or show any motion.

Tootsie

The Film Tootsie reinforces gender roles and stereotypes. Tootsie a 1982 film with the main character Michael who cross desses as a women to get a job as an actor since no one else wants him in their movies/plays/ shows. In this movie he sees both sides of being a man and a women but in the end he is a man. They make this very clear at the end of the movie when Julie accepts him for who he is. Also they show this when Michael acts like a women.
When Michael first begins to be Dorothy many other women look up to him. They want that drive to stand up for them selfs as he dose. He is a strong women, but later as he keeps cross dressing he becomes more feminine. He starts to become concern about what he is going to wear and wants to look pretty. Even though he is a man he could not really protect himself when almost getting blank by one of his co-workers. He begins to show a really feminine side that most women them selfs do have. Also he becomes someone Julie begins to care about. Even though he is kind as a women as Dorothy, Michael as a man is a really different person.
Michael begins to have a hard time balancing his life as Dorothy and himself. He begins to date a women named Sandy who resembles Thelma from the movie Louise and Thelma. She is a character who cant express anger well. Michael tries to help her gain her role as a strong female character for a show. When he finds out he wont be able to find a job he signs up for the role as Dorothy. This makes Sandy upset and becomes jealous like most females would. Later on Sandy even becomes a strong women once Michael tells her he is in love with another women just like how thelma became by the end of the movie.

Feminism In Film - Thelma and Louis
In the film Thelma and Louis men are have more power and are dominant, strong and superior over women. Though out the film Thelma and Louis are very dynamic characters that change over time. Thelma for example starts off in the movie as a very feminien women who is always overpowered by men. Later she is robbing shops and dose not fear a man or gun, she even stands up to the man in the truck that makes lude gestures to her and Louis. This film shows who has most power and dominance. Also can women have power over men?
In these two pictures it shows how Thelma is weak at first but becomes the more strong and dominate character.
In the begining of this movie Louis seems to be more masculine than Feminine. She wore pants unlike Thelma and dose not trust other men or fall for their tricks like thelma dose. She seems like a strong character until the midpoint of the film when her boyfriend proposes to her and loses the money he gave to her. Her hair is down and she begins to cry and becomes a lot more feminine. Also Louis almost told the detective what happened in Texas and is becoming more soft. Thelma hangs up the phone for her at this point she has becoming more masculine.
